Bands & Artists : REPLICA

mouse writes"

http://www.replica.net.au

Replica are an independent band who began playing around Victoria in 2001. The coming together of four diverse musicians has led to the creation of something very special.
From the singer’s classical background, the guitarist’s rock roots, the drummer’s Latin and hip-hop influences and the bass player’s retro yearnings, has come a new sound that is unique to Replica. In fact the name Replica was decided on as the band do not sound like anything else around in the live music scene today - they do not replicate anything.
Replica’s strength lies in their ability to combine a commercial sound with an alternative approach to music. They are melodic, powerful and edgy.
Replica’s drive and focus has seen them become one of Melbourne’s most talked about bands, playing the states top venues such as The Esplanade Hotel (voted Australia’s Top Live Venue), Hi Fi Bar and Ballroom (home to national and international touring bands), and world music icon Hard Rock Cafe.

Bands & Artists : HOTEL 44

Hotel’s Accommodation…

Hotel 44 believes in the phrase, “Music is what we are!!” Having formed in early 2001, Hotel 44 has worked hard to create a unique blend of “melodic, retro hard rock” with a commercial twist!! Hotel 44 varies their tunes from hard-hitting “in your face” songs with vocals of raw energy – to soothing and subtle/calming songs that make you think!! Hotel 44 is therefore a band that strongly believes that each song created should be different in their own right, so the crowd and band members are involved in all phases of what makes a great Hotel 44 song. Locating the Hotel …

Hotel 44 retains a Brisbane base but has worked extensively with bands including Melodyssey, Forte, The Tenants and Retrospect throughout South-East Queensland, just to show to audience members that Hotel 44, aren’t just a local “garage” band. Continuous supports and headlining shows, has resulted in Hotel 44 executing a polished and energy packed performance each time the band hits the stage.

Influencing the Hotel…

With powerful drumming, catchy bass lines, powerful/crunch guitars riffs, and a vocal sound that seems to surround the music and the audience with a feeling of power; is what brings this “modern alternative hard rock” band into a position of prowess and grace. Morgan, Az, Damo and Scotty draw their influences from various corners of the musical spectrum ranging from Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Screaming Jets, Virgil Donati, Mike Portnoy, Zakk Wylde, Queens on the Stone Age, Tool, and many more. From this, you can see how Hotel 44 can create such powerful and catchy tunes… So in 2004 Hotel 44 has a new line-up, a debut EP (7th CYCLE), and is now set to bring the ROCK back into the Brisbane and beyond LIVE scenes. If you have witnessed Hotel 44 before … beware – as you will now not know what to expect from a band that continually evolves …

News : lets get it right on stage

richardrocks writes"The last few months ive been cruzing around pubs and venues listening to bands and their styles . i came across a band which totally blew me away for poor production and generaly bad timing . The selection of songs was perfect but the final product was very disturbing .What was wrong you may ask? Well these days its hard to get good gigs but hey ,dont blow it by not doing your home work , cover bands are not the perfect reproduction of a song , its your own feel and interpretation but you cant go on stage with 4 instrments and 1 singer and only have 3 members switched on. The band i saw had a great leed guitarist ,a brillant singer but the bass and drums were either not interested or simply just going thru the motions of a gig . Both these members were either behind the beat (mainly the drummer ) and the bass was way out of tune and didnt even resemble the tune of the song . Yes im a musician i can pick it but when a person standing next to you ,who has no musical knowledge but knows their songs from radio or tv asks you whats this song called you have to ask yourself what the hell are these musos trying to achieve .I told this person i think they are trying to play a living end song but im not quite sure which one . I must say that i was embaresed for them . So hey to all you budding rock stars out there , have a good listen to yourselves ,you dont have to be perfect but for crying out loud make sure you have some likeness to the song and for gods sake get the timing right , its not only musically minded people who are knocking you .The punters are also . You will notice that i have not named the band or venue ,which i will not do as it is not fair to both , My only intention is to say have a good listen to what you are doing ,dont go on stage and do 50% go there and strut your stuff and give it 100% and with a bit of luck you may get 90% right and make your public hungry to come and see you again . Thats my say for this week RICHARDROCKS "
