just an idea...

Have one forum topic per 'day'(monday tuesday ...etc) and lock it so people can't make their own special topic, and people advertise their gig on that certain day putting a post for it...

I think it makes sense.... plus it makes people look at all the gigs on that date instead of just one certain gig....

Awesome idea, the gig section is just filled and too much sifting has to be done to find gigs for certain days. Top notch ! I think it would get used a lot more if something like this was implemented.

I think it would be better if the forum was split by genre of music instead of by day...

cheers

well perhaps then have a genre and what week it is in?
ie

Blues/Roots gigs from 26/2/07 to the 4/3/07
Rock gigs from 26/2/07 to the 4/3/07
Metal gigs from 26/2/07 to the 4/3/07

good in theory but it seems like a lot of work, i dont know if geoff would have the time.

the best would be to have a calendar and everyone could add theirs dates onto it, so you click on fri 23 feb and you could see all the melband bands playing

I don't think it would be that much work in hindsight...

All you'd need to do is put around seven new topics a week, with some instructions at the top of the post explaining the system which can be easily copy/pasted.

They did once have a calendar.... But I don't know if that's gone out the door or what...

My vote would be Genre, not date. That limits advertising potential for those of us who like to plan ahead. Just my 2c

limits advertising? explain how...
really it would be a first come, first up basis...
say the topic starts a month in advance... which will have a certain amount of time to get a decent amount of reads, it's a win win in my books

more "Instructions" for users not to follow!! just like the Posting Etiquette - most people follow the basic rules and then there are those who think it's their "right" to do as they please...

Thanks for your input though Gus - we are working on a total re-development of the site which will also include a new gig guide section so stay tuned...
the old "Gig Guide" calendar we had was extremely buggy and we haven't been able to find a better one since..

cheers
Geoff

thanks for reading my input.

I just think its a win-win situation for everyone that posts in the Gig Guide.
I mean at the moment most of the Gig Guide is full of Gigs from the people that come here 24/7 or so and just push up theirs to the top of the heap in an attempt to get more exposure for their gig (including myself).
In collecting each of the gig's and pooling them to certain genres/dates you are pooling the exposure and there would be much less of this happening...
I realise that there can still be people breaking the rules, alas as I did in trying to bring people to comment on this topic, but I think if the gig guide system seemed more fairer less people would be inclined to break it.
