We’re a group of friendly and supportive amateur musicians who've been meeting in a Richmond church every Wednesday evening since 2006 to play trad jazz from charts. We’re a practice group and not a band. Our aim to have fun making music together, loosely following the trad jazz tradition, and with lots of opportunities to improvise. We meet from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. You can see our current charts list here: https://www.tradjazzers.com/charts.html

Our current lineup comprises drums, tuba, banjo, guitar, piano, trumpet, trombone, two saxes, two clarinets and cello.

Our current guitar player joins us fortnightly. We are looking for a second guitar player who can play the alternate weeks, and also fill in when our other guitarist is unavailable. Because we're a practice group and not a band, you'll get lots of chances to solo (on every tune, in fact). When you're not soloing, we'll be needing you to lay down a clean, steady pulse, somewhat along the lines of the Freddie Green. If you're not sure what that means, check out this cheesy short tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqtbFg0RNI0. Whether you play acoustic or electric with us is entirely up to you.

If you think this could be something you'd be interested in, please send an email to peter@tradjazzers.com, or complete the contact form at our website: https://www.tradjazzers.com/contact-us.html

I'll look forward to hearing from you!

Peter

We're still looking. If you're interested, please take a look at our charts to see if you're really up for playing this kind of music. I should mention that while we have a scattering of ages, we're predominantly (but not exclusively) a bunch of older players.
