Ok I've used TDK Gold now for years but the last spindle I bought has been bad..... Maybe 20% coasters.

I have a spindle of taiyo Yuden for critical jobs (masters and pre masters) but for everyday references what are you all using.

Thx

I usually only get TDK media. Hopefully the bad batch is just a very rare one off....

I haven't burned a CD in.... who knows how long. When I do my mates always cram into me that Taiyo Yuden should be the only brand I ever use.

Its always a tricky thing, I usually try and buy the same brand Blank media as the brand of my Burner. So if i have an LG burner I buy LG discs. Cause if they arnt compatible, then what the hell would be Razz

+1
pretty much the same here.
if you do an error check on TYs you'll see why they're so good. very, very low error rate.

TY were involved in developing the CD-R format itself, patenting the dye (one type of dye). It's the stability of this dye and accuracy of the pre-groove that separates the good CD-R's from the bad/pot luck, along with the particular batch, cleanliness of the disc (especially while blank), burner's laser life, burn speed, software, and the read speed at a CD plant's QC stage (which I was also involved with), plus the threshold of any caution/warning flags set in terms of spec conformance (this is separate, although not mutually exclusive, to error rates). Some TY discs are branded under other brands.

So the issue's not so much 'what's the best disc' but what's most consistent and compatible given a particular burner, software, burn speed, etc.

Yep, an added 'whitewash' can offer added protection for the data layer, as the data is just beneath the label side.

You speak sense, it is also worth a Wiki for their perspective:-
